(More customer reviews)I was expecting a huge index where I could look up all of the leftovers I might have. This book is listed as 352 pages on the Amazon website but it is only a 212 page trade paperback (including the three page index).
And...when I thought the book showed you how to use up little bits of "leftovers" I didn't expect to see the Potato section only have 6 recipes for fresh potatoes only -- not cooked or mashed already--since when are potatoes "leftovers" that you have to use up unless the bag is full of potatoes with shoots growing from the eyes.
I tried the Spanish Rice using "leftover" salsa and it wasn't bad -- it was only OK.
Leftover Honey? The book says that any form of honey only has a 12 month shelf life. You know you just warm it up if it crystalizes--it isn't a leftover, it is staple for food storage.
From the Table of Contents: Leftover Carrots, Applesauce, Bananas (yes, you make all of those mushy dark bananas into cakes and breads -- we all know that), Celery, Cheese (yeah, I hate having cheese sit around -- I never have anything to use cheese for -- WRONG!), Chicken (Rotisserie) -- ONLY Rotisserie and nothing else? This book is a failure!!! Eggs, Honey (see comment above), Jam/Jelly, Lemons, Milk (what?), Olives -- you just eat them -- gee!, Onions (see my comment for Cheese), Orange Juice (either it is fresh and you drink it or you throw it out!), Peas (I don't save peas), Raisins, Rice (Cooked)--now there is something I could use, Salad Dressing???, Salsa, Tomato Paste (how much of a 6 oz. paste can could be left? ;-)), Tomatoes (I hope they mean from your garden), Wine (not interested -- Wine????--don't you just drink it?).
I am sorry but this is not what I wanted and I hope maybe that Amazon might take it back or it will just sit on my shelf with the other "designer" cookbooks which have no use.
There ARE comments and suggestions at the end of each chapter so that is why I gave this book 2 stars.
It is better to use the One Million Recipes software -- you can find anything on it. Why didn't I think of that before I ordered this? One Million Recipes

If you have pent-up guilt, if you were lectured by your parents, or if you just want to be frugal about using all the food you paid for The Use-It-Up Cookbook is just the book for you. By following its instructions, you will rid yourself of the guilt and use up what's left of the package, jar, bottle, bunch, or can! Two bananas have become more brown than yellow. You've moved the half carton of buttermilk in the refrigerator yet again to retrieve something on the shelf behind it. Why not look up the recipes for bananas and buttermilk in The Use-It-Up Cookbook to see how you might be able to incorporate them into this evening's dinner or tomorrow's lunch? The same can be done with the bunch of celery that has at least one or two stalks that are still green and that barely used can of tomato paste. What makes this cookbook so useful is that it's designed to help you do this, unlike more traditional cookbooks that do not list minor ingredients such as these.
