Sweet and Sugar Free: An All Natural Fruit-Sweetened Dessert Cookbook Review

Sweet and Sugar Free: An All Natural Fruit-Sweetened Dessert Cookbook

"A Reader" from 1998 is reviewing the wrong book. "Sweet and Sugar Free" by Karen E. Barkie, does not contain any recipes calling for date flour. The book "A Reader" is referring to is called "Cook With Me SUGAR FREE" by Sharon D. Gerstenzang. It is also available here at Amazon, and is an excellent book.
This book, "Sweet & Sugar Free" by Karen E. Barkie, is also an excellent book. The recipes are not as simple as your recipes calling for 2 eggs, 2 cups of sugar and 2 cups of flour. When cooking with fruits and fruit juices, you need slighly different techniques to come up with a tasty finished product. That said, the techniques are explained in detail and after making a few of them, you really feel confident enough to try to alter some of your own recipes, to make them with fruit juices instead of sugar or honey.
Karen Barkie's recipes are reliable. The baked goods have a nice texture, a sweet flavor, and are family-friendly. After learning and experimenting with fruit-sweetened recipes and techniques, the recipes become quite easy. If you are avoiding artificial sweeteners or sugar, honey and other sweeteners that send your insulin soaring, these recipes will really hit the spot. They taste good, feel good in your mouth, satisfy the kids, and are relatively inexpensive easy to prepare.

The Super Jam Cookbook: Over 75 Recipes, From Jams to Jammy Dodgers and Marmalades to Muffins Review

The Super Jam Cookbook: Over 75 Recipes, From Jams to Jammy Dodgers and Marmalades to Muffins

I love this book. The jams can be made with sugar instead of juice as there are directions on how to change the recipes for that. I've had such a hard time finding low sugar jam recipes that don't used modified pectin or artificial sweeteners. This book has them. The book does not have the basic directions for hot water bath canning (something of a curiosity to the English) but any other American book would have that, just make sure to follow that and you'll do fine.

SuperJam is a delicious range of jams and marmalades. They're "super" because they're made with "superfruits," such as cranberries and blueberries, and fruit juice, rather than sugar, meaning they're healthier than your average pot of jam. This cookbook is a juicy celebration of all things jammy. As well as being packed full of recipes for jams, marmalades, chutneys and jellies, the book offers more unusual ideas for spreads, such as Banana and Rum Curd, Dulce de Leche and Chilli Jam. Exquisitely designed and lavishly photographed, The SuperJam Cookbook will be a lovely gift or simply the perfect way to indulge your love of one of life's greatest comfort foods.

Ocean Spray Craisins, Orange, 6-Ounce Bags (Pack of 12) Review

Ocean Spray Craisins, Orange, 6-Ounce Bags (Pack of 12)

I love cranberry/orange/nut muffins & cakes. It's a flavor I can't get enough of. A few years ago, I purchased orange flavored Craisins at the grocery store & absolutely loved the flavor. I'd buy a pack every other month or so & then they began to get harder to find. I even called Ocean Spray to find out if they were still making this flavor & the customer rep said she didn't know of any changes. I can always find Craisins and cherry flavored Craisins on the store shelf...but I don't particularly like either one of those.
I like to add walnuts & orange flavored Craisins to my oatmeal. I use them in toss salads & broccoli salad, too. I have never baked anything with them, I love the flavor so much that just having a taste of the orange flavored Craisins satisfies me & I don't need to eat them in baked products. Great for me, cause it saves me all those unnecessary fat & calories in baked goods.
The ingredients and nutrition facts are listed above under the headings, "Important information" & "Nutrition Facts"

Oskri Dried Fruit, Cherries, 3.53-Ounce Bags (Pack of 6) Review

Oskri Dried Fruit, Cherries, 3.53-Ounce Bags (Pack of 6)

(More customer reviews)
While reading through one of those lists advising me of what I should be eating in order to get all of the vitamins, minerals, bioflavinoids, and existential approval necessary for perfect health, I found that I should be eating dried cherries. On a regular basis. As in daily. So I went off to the store in search of dried cherries. It turns out that not only are dried cherries really good for you. They are also really expensive. Or dry as sawdust with about as much taste.
Oskri produces and packages some wonderful dried cranberries and I wondered if they did the same for cherries. It turns out that Oskri's dried cherries are just as wonderful as the dried cranberries. Like the cranberries, these are the whole fruit and not bits and pieces. The cherries have been pitted and doused with a touch of apple juice for a bit of extra sweetener and then dried. The end result is a dried cherry that retains the perfect amount of moisture and a deep rich flavor.
I've been mixing my own "trail mix" (it should probably be called "office mix") using Brazil nut, pecans, almonds, hazelnuts, and these dried cherries. Fabulous, healthy with just enough existential approval.
