The Complete Passover Cookbook Review

The Complete Passover Cookbook
Average Reviews:

This book could be subtitled "The Joy of Passover Cooking" because it does for Passover what the "Joy of Cooking" did for food in general. An incredible variety of recipes, suitable for both gebrochts and non-gebrochts (in 10 years I haven't yet tried them all), with conversion tables and recommendations for substitutions if you live, as I do, in a place where the choice of kosher-for-passover ingredients is limited. My family tells me that each Passover gets more scrumptious than the last, and my husband, who always regarded Pesach as something of a trial because of the restrictions, now eagerly anticipates the Pesach rolls and other delicacies I whip up. No Passover-observing kitchen should be without this book!

Passover cuisine is no longer limited to the traditional dishes known to our parents and grandparents. In this classic, containing more than 500 clearly written recipes, Frances AvRutick shows us how to make every Passover dish a succulent delight. In nineteen chapters spiced with history, laced with lore, and garnished with cooking suggestions, you will find everything from traditional holiday preparations (try the Russian borscht and light-as-a-feather knaidlach) to modern-day originals (matzo-spinach pie, elegant stuffed drumsticks, matzo meal polenta--to name a few). The Complete Passover Cookbook will help you prepare the kind of Passover you never dreamed possible. New, revised 2008 edition.

Merry Christmas (Gooseberry Patch) Review

Merry Christmas (Gooseberry Patch)
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
This book is loaded with recipes and good ideas for sharing them. The Pumpkin Cream Muffins have a cream cheese center that makes them special. The White Chili, if you've never tried it, is delicious! The Christmas Tree Cinnamon Rolls are so easy, yet impressive looking. And I am tempted to try the Hot Chocolate Muffins, made with hot chocolate, for a breakfast treat.
Add to that the quick ideas that you can do or make in minutes, like Powdered sugar apple party favors. They take minutes, but make a lasting impression. "Merry Christmas" makes it look like you've tried hard and been real thoughtful, but it makes it quick and easy to do so.
I would recommend this book.

Bake Sale Cookbook Review

Bake Sale Cookbook
Average Reviews:

I saw Sandra Lee baking recipes from this book on a morning show this week, so I thought I'd try it out. There are gorgeous photos of every dessert, so the presentations look like they are ready for a bake sale. If you bake from scratch you may not like her shortcuts using prepared mixes and some ready made icings, BUT this book is a winner even just to learn good presentations or get ideas for your own recipes from scratch. The little details she does make her presentations beautiful.
I am not a great cook, and I need the pictures of what the final product should look like, so I love this book. Colorful, cheerful, easy for any cook, and includes baking tips to make the baked goods come out looking really irresistible.
Directions, time needed, yield, and ingredients are all laid out very simply, so you can see if you have the time and have the ingredients on hand for a recipe.
There are cookies, brownies, bars, cakes, cupcakes, fruits, candies, pies, truffles, and breads. She has a section showing "cookiescapes" and how to make small theme baskets for bake sales and holidays.
Here are just a few of the recipes I found unique: Pear & Cinnamon Charlotte, Butter Toffee Flower Sandwiches, Root Beer Cupcakes, Cream Marzipan Cake, White Chocolate Macadamia Cake, Custard Filled Cake, Plum Apricot Clafouti, Caramel Apple Muffin Melts, Triple Blueberry Pie, and Rocky Road Parfaits. Plenty for both children and adults to love!
I'm off to the kitchen. Two thumbs up from my house. This is a soft cover book, but still very nice to give as a gift.

Didn't think Marcel could top his last book, but I was wrong! Recipes run the gamut from easy to challenging with his usual well detailed and well written instructions. Love the comments in the chef's touch also. My only problem with the book is trying to decide which one to start with!! Excellent, and beautiful, book that will make a great Holiday gift.

Libby's Pumpkin Bread Kit with Icing, 56-Ounce Kits (Pack of 2) Review

It is so easy to bake and delicious. I baked 2 loaves on Friday and it was gone by Sunday. I added 1 cup of golden raisins in addition to nuts. But it is overpriced here because I bought the 2-loaf kit for only $5 at Walmart.
