The Last Cafe Review

The Last Cafe
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
A group of eccentric travelers are stranded by a killer blizzard at a small cafe in the middle of nowhere for two memorable days in this delightfully funny and touching novel by Kevin Cahill.
Narrating the events at THE LAST CAFE is Morton Poom, the town's local famous poet who fancies himself a mystery writer (and a very bad one at that). Poom introduces us to the strangers who seek refuge from the storm, among them the wealthy and snobbish Victor Spoils and his gin-swilling wife, Muffin; a sweet English Scholar, Linda Love; and a grimy biker only known as The Thief.
Among the locals are Myrna Zeligman, the elderly, chain-smoking cafe owner; Raoul Goldblum, Myrna's Jewish-Mexican cook; Elsa, the Last Cafe's overweight and nosey waitress; Carl G. 'Bud' Moore Jr. II, a gas pump attendant with some damaged gray matter; Sheriff Bill Fish, the one-eyed lawman with an itchy trigger finger; Quiet Dave, enigmatic owner of Dave's Guns and Gifts (who hasn't uttered a word in twenty years); Ivon Poom, Morton's grumpy father; and Bob The Dog, a gentle Doberman who carries on deeply philosophical discussions with the narrator Poom.
Cahill's quickly paced style is peppered with witty and hilarious dialogue that briskly leads the plot through each character's life story, and intertwines new relationships that grow through the passing hours. We learn about life and its many crossroads, as the Last Cafe slowly transforms into a metaphor for a stopping point where important decisions must be made before one can continue the journey of life.
THE LAST CAFE will make you both laugh and cry as Cahill's wonderful characters reveal their fragile yet durable spirit.

Ruby Ann's Down Home Trailer Park Cookbook Review

Ruby Ann's Down Home Trailer Park Cookbook
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
My wife and I moved into a new home and one of the gifts was a box with all three of Ruby Ann's books inside. At the moving party we all started to read aloud little selections from the books. I started out with Ruby Ann's Down Home Trailer Park Cookbook. Within seconds the entire room was filled with laughter. Before we knew it, it was 11 PM. Every thing else like the planned party games and such had taken a backseat because of the laughter that all of us, including my 57 year old boss and his wife, my grand parents, and even the teenagers in the room, shared will reading Ms. Boxcars books. Even if you don't like to cook, the stories alone are well worth the price. Since that evening, we have tried the food and to be honest, it is as tasty as the rest of the books are funny. TWO THUMBS WAY UP FOR RUBY ANN AND HER BOOKS!

I was laughing all the way through this book! I was actually giggling in my living room while reading Rantalicious and I think my boyfriend must have thought I was insane! I could definitely see myself in the book and the author's viewpoints.
"Rantalicious: True Tirades from a Woman on the Edge" is a book for the "everywoman"! I highly recommend it!

The Accidental Werewolf (The Accidental Series, Book 1) Review

The Accidental Werewolf (The Accidental Series, Book 1)

You know when you start to read a book and you get so into it that you forget about eating and sleeping and even your children? This is one of those books. I literally could not put this book down and finished it in 2 days. (It would have been hours, not days but the children did eventually convince me that they needed food.) I cannot wait to read Nina's story. Come on July 2008!!

Full Speed Review

Full Speed

First, I wish Amazon allowed for half stars because my true rating is a 3 and one/half. I expect by Full Blast the authors will have a smoother style. Can you tell I'm a true half cup full person? This book is definitely a step up from Full Tilt although I disagree with a review I read that said this book has a Nick and Nora repartee....not quite there yet.
Things are still a bit stilted in dialog and plot. I like the premise of Muffin's interaction but the sizzle is still lukewarm between Max and Jamie. Dave's paranoia doesn't quite catch if he was to be the comic foil. The writing is still to static...for a visual think pop-up videos.
If you are a Stephanie Plum fan consider these books the half hour TV sitcom to Ms Plum as the feature presentation. But as I said before I am optimistic. I anticipate that Ms Evanovich and Ms Hughes will become more comfortable in combining their writing styles and hopefully future books will display this.

Dear Reader,Welcome to the world of Jamie Swift and Max Holt! My good friend Charlotte Hughes and I have teamed up to create a series of books featuring these two characters and they've taken on a life of their own! These books are not set in the same world as my Stephanie Plum novels, but what they have in common is lovable, dysfunctional characters, villains you love to hate, and a cross-eyed way of looking at life. Jamie and Max have intense chemistry-even though they drive each other crazy. Max thinks Jamie is a magnet for trouble and Jamie thinks Max is the most annoyingly sexy, mysterious man she's ever met. She knows she should stay away from him. But boy, oh boy, do the sparks fly when they get together. Jamie is a newspaper owner from a small southern town. And in Full Speed, she's after the story of a lifetime. Max Holt is right in the middle of that story, and so Jamie tracks down the millionaire playboy, forcing him to take her on as partner. What follows is a story of a corrupt minister, a gang of mobsters on the loose, a hound dog called Fleas, a wise-cracking computer genius, and lots of love in the fast lane. Not to mention plenty of steamy action between Jamie and Max. So have fun with Full Speed. We're going to sign off now and get back to creating more romantic adventures between Jamie Swift and Max Holt. Enjoy and happy reading! Janet and Charlotte
