I've had the Gooseberry "Mom's Favorite Recipes" for a few years now and added to my collection recently with "Comfort Foods." I love every recipe I've tried in both cookbooks and have gotten rave reviews from my parents and my mother-in-law, and of course, my husband. These are recipes I will keep and use for years and hope to hand down to my children. Great recipes, easy to follow, easy ingredients - GREAT flavor!

Highly recommended. My wife got this book few weeks ago and we both love it. She for the tips and the other mothers stories and myself for being able to cook meals that suites her fluctuating moods. Its sure does make life easy to know that you there is a solution for every mood. Also like the guidelines on how to stock up so that we never run out of food, this is key. Great book :o)

The Gluten-Free Gourmet Cooks Comfort Foods: Creating Old Favorites with the New Flours Review

The Gluten-Free Gourmet Cooks Comfort Foods: Creating Old Favorites with the New Flours

Bette takes the guess work out of gluten free recipes. She has done all the experimenting for us! If you are willing to buy several different kinds of flours and starches to make your own baking mixes, this book provides MANY great recipes for using those mixes. I have tried many of the muffin, quick bread, and waffle recipes, and have not been disappointed yet. The baked goods don't stay fresh for long (maybe a day or two at the most), so I put everything in the freezer. It works out very well! I also have Gluten Free Gourmet Bakes Bread, but I like Comfort Foods better. She uses more of the "newer" flours (like Teff), which I have found really lend a lot to wheat free baked goods.

Southern Plate: Classic Comfort Food That Makes Everyone Feel Like Family Review

Southern Plate: Classic Comfort Food That Makes Everyone Feel Like Family

I have followed Christy's blog for a long time. I found her site when I was searching for a recipe for sweet tea, which I'd never made. Her recipe was SO easy, and tastes incredible! That same day, I made her strawberry pie, which was as easy as, well, pie. Christy can't be topped. Her recipes are ideal for "regular" cooks like me, who are cooking for families on a budget, trying to satisfy picky eaters, and trying to make great food around time constraints.
Christy has a way of explaining things that make it SO easy to follow her recipes. I am a pretty good cook, and I enjoy trying new recipes with varying levels of difficulty. Some cookbooks just don't guide you through some of the more challenging steps or the directions are unclear, and I waste time standing there trying to interpret what they mean. But reading and preparing Christy's recipes is like having a good friend standing by you, guiding you through and cheering you on as you go.
I will also be getting a copy for my daughter, as she's just "out of the nest" and learning to cook on her own. Since I can't be there myself to help her cook, I'm going to send Christy's book as my "proxy", and that's the next best thing to being there!
Thank you, Christy, for helping me feed my family good food that they like easily, quickly, inexpensively, and with love!

This is easily the best home baking book I have used. The only complaint is that she uses salted margarine but she does add that you should add a pinch of salt if you must use unsalted butter. Oleo is the traditional fat. The recipes are clear and easy. She uses self-rising flour in some recipes but also tells how to make your own. A few are clunkers but there are some real gems here: full of freckles pound cake, meltaway blueberry coffeecake, and devil's food cake are just a few great examples. BUY THIS BOOK!
