This is a wonderful addition to any dessert lover's library, as well as for anyone looking to bake beautiful and delicious cakes that have all the flavor but not 1000 calories per slice. The pictures, though small, are gorgeous, and made me want to jump right in. There is so much variety in this book, the recipes are very detailed and easy to follow, and most importantly, the four recipes I have tried since the arrival of my book came out absolutely perfectly (the plum crumble cake is going to be a new standard in our house; we have a plum tree and everyone who tried this cake was blown away. Two good friends, avid bakers themselves, were incredulous when I told them it was a "lighter" cake).
I was skeptical about the lighter cheesecakes (as a native New Yorker, I have high standards for my beloved cheesecake), so I tried both the sour cream cheesecake and the wildflower honey cheesecake. Both were gorgeous, perfect, and everything a cheesecake should be. I'm convinced.
I have watched Ms. Saulsbury win multiple major cookoffs on the Food Network over the years, and already thought she was a genius; this beautiful book is but further proof of her talent. A highly recommended book--Brava!

All of the Dawn teacher guides by the Malnors are superior resources. They are very well-organized and easy to follow. There are enough activities suggested to be very selective and still have more than enough material. Plus, what I love about these guides, is that all modes of learning are addressed: for example, the body and the feelings as well as the intellect. My other favorites are the rainforests and ocean guides.

I was very enthusiastic regarding this book. The recipes were very well done and I did find great relief from menopausal symptoms. However, while traveling I relied on several "portable" flax seed foods for my daily "portions" for estrogen. Shortly thereafter, I was found to have a very irregular heart beat. I have no history of heart problems and, in fact, am an athlete. Research into flax seed showed that more than 2 ounces or 60 grams a day should not be taken internally. It can cause increased respitory rate, gasping, staggering, or convulsions. In early history, it was used as a heart medication - indicating a heart link. There is no warning in the book and in fact, the book encourages higher doses. Please use extreme caution in using these flax seed foods. Use only small amounts per day. There are beneficial amounts (very low doses), but it is toxic in small amounts as well if consumed regularly. There are no warnings on the flax seed bags in stores.

I am very happy with this cookbook...my husband has an inherited kidney disease and my son has inherited potential cholesterol and heart problems from hsi fahter's family...I have tried unsuccessfully to create meals that are healthy and appetizing and finally this book has managed to help me meal plan for us all...and since we are a family of 3, we will have meals to freeze or take to lunch the next day...I would recommend this book to ANYONE in need of low protein, cholesterol, sodium diets...

This is such a great little book. Easy to make recipies that really are tasty and perfect for kids......just like the title says.
I own a lot of gluten free receipe books and usually can pick one or two ideas from each to tempt my son with but the majority of those other cook-books (as good as some of them may be) focus on adults with gluten intolerance and consist of meals and dishes that wouldn't look out of place at a dinner party catering for guests with a discerning palate. This little gem though, well and truly caters for children and covers everything from snacks and nibbles through to parties and complete meals. It also has some nice little tales/snippets that go with some of the recipies, to let you know how they came about, which is interesting.
The BEST thing about this book however, is that although it's brilliant for the gluten intolerant in your family it also works as a general child friendly cookbook that everyone can benefit from, even those in the family that can tolerate gluten will find little to object to with these dishes. It's impossible to tell that the finished recipies cater to a dietary requirement, it all just tastes and looks like good home-made food. The recipies are healthy, tasty, fun, easy AND gluten free. It's brilliant.
Even if you're just looking for a great cookbook for kids menu's I'd recommend this one, it's filled with yummy stuff.

My husband's cholesterol is through the roof!!! So we both decided we wanted to try going without red meat for a while. I looked into a lot of vegetarian cookbooks but they were so off-the-wall and not very realistic for a family with 2 school age boys. It was so hard to find any recipes for "normal" easy cooking that didn't require weird or bizzare ingredients!! Thats why I love this cookbook! The recipes are simple and DELICIOUS!!! It's worth every penny! We can't wait to see how this will impact his cholesterol levels!!
