Ok, I'll say up front that the sheer number of (pink) flowery prints on the pages of this book didn't sit well with my stomach... they reminded me of the gaudy cheap clearance rack books.
Having said that (and adding that the author's "Baking by Flavor" doesn't wear garlands, thank you Lisa) I've really enjoyed perusing "Chocolate Chocolate". The author has truly provided a wealth of info and the title of chocolate bible wouldn't be much of an exaggeration. The recipies are geared more toward the kinds of things one might make on a dull weekend afternoon, and avoid the complex, showy items.
The recipies consist of the following categories:
1) Brownie style
2) Back-to-basics chocolate cakes
3) Black bottom cupcakes and more
4) Chips and chunks
5) Chocolate and streusel, chocolate and nuts
6) Chocolate and toffee
7) Chocolate birthday cakes
8) Chocolate bread
9) Chocolate coffee, Bundt, and pound cakes
10) Chocolate in big muffins, biscuits, and scones
11) Chocolate in layers
12) Chocolate memories
13) Chocolate pancakes, chocolate waffles
14) Chocolate tender, chocolate crunchy
15) Chocolate, caramel, and nuts - a turtle twist
16) Deep, dark, and bittersweet
17) Double chocolate
18) Flourless and almost-flourless chocolate cakes
19) Heirloom chocolate cakes
20) Mudslide
21) Liquid chocolate and homemade marshmallows
The author adds a wonderfully useful "Storing and freezing chocolate baked goods" section that comes in handy when your eyes are bigger than your stomach and you've been unable to resist the recipies.
In short, this is a wonderful (and wonderfully handy) epic book of things chocolate. The recipies aren't designed for fancy restaurant plated desserts... they are the kind that you'll make again and again, and gladly share with those you love. (And then get "Baking by Flavor" if you don't have it already.)
(Still wish the thing wasn't so pink and flowery, but that's a small price to pay ;-)

Vegetarian Celebrations: Festive Menus for Holidays & Other Special Occasions Tag: Updated Ed... Review

Vegetarian Celebrations: Festive Menus for Holidays and Other Special Occasions Tag: Updated Ed...
Average Reviews:

Like all of Nava Atlas's books, this one is wonderful, filled with clear descriptions and phenomenal recipes with an eye toward good health. My one and only quibble is that the recipes are hardly "updated" as described on the cover ... I went through it page by page comparing it to the original version, but the only changes I could find were to delete "water" as an ingredient, and to change "margarine" to "reduced-fat margarine" -- which hardly seems worth the cost of a new book; mine is going right back to Amazon. However, if you don't already own the original version, I highly recommend this book for uniquely delicious recipes (many of them kid-pleasing, and appealing to omnivores as well as vegetarians) designed to promote good health, with as little fat and sodium as possible without sacrificing flavor. Although I own almost every vegetarian cookbook in print (no exaggeration), this is one of my all-time favorites, and most dependable ones.

Southern Living: 2007 Annual Recipes: Every Single Recipe From 2007 -- Over 900

As a long time Southern Living magazine subscriber, I collect the yearly collections of the magazine recipes. The worst I can say about Southern Living recipes is that they may not always be the healthiest, but they're always good. Purchasing cookbooks can be a bit of a crap shoot, but you can't go wrong with these collections of recipes; they're a good investment. Compared to other magazines that I've tried, this one reigns superior when it comes to recipe offerings and I've noticed that more and more are healthier--great for those of us getting older and encountering cholesterol, sodium, and fat issues. I usually purchase these books second-hand and save a considerable amount of money that way. I also recommend the annual Christmas collections which have less recipes but instead give lots of great Christmas decorating ideas.

The Complete Guide to Wheat-Free Cooking Review

The Complete Guide to Wheat-Free Cooking

This is one of the few books that I have found for individuals with just wheat-not wheat and gluten-allergies. I suffer from wheat allergies, and it has been difficult to find recipes that don't exclued gluten as well(which makes it more difficult to find ingredients). This book is great. The only reason that I gave it 4 stars instead of five, is that I wish it had more spelt recipes!

The Moms' Guide to Meal Makeovers: Improving the Way Your Family Eats, One Meal at a Time Review

The Moms' Guide to Meal Makeovers: Improving the Way Your Family Eats, One Meal at a Time
Average Reviews:

These recipes are quick, easy, good, and best of all, a little more adventurous than your normal "family" cookbooks filled with chicken nuggets and pasta. I am not one to plan a week's meals ahead, and I love that I can open this book and find something great to make out of what I have on hand. I've made at least 15 of the recipes and every one was great. The prep time estimates seem to be pretty accurate. Our family in general likes things a little more spicy than most, so some recipes were a little bland but I just add a little more seasoning if that happens. I think they would probably be fine for most people, especially kids.
I think the authors are right on the mark with their advice on kids trying new foods, no "yuck!"s etc. Their philosophy is similar to our own house rules, and as a result my boys (3 and 7) are great eaters. I had the pleasure of meeting the authors at a bookstore signing, and I was very impressed with their knowledge, sensibility, and friendliness!

Hotel Del Coronado Cookbook, The Review

Hotel Del Coronado Cookbook, The

I like this cookbook for the historical element it portrays. Unlike ordinary cookbooks which simply apply ingredients to an equation, this cookbook allows you to learn several aspects of the Hotel del Coronado's history. From the early years to the most recent recipe, you get a glimpse of the lifestyles and current affairs of each era. Not only entertaining, but recipes that can still be used today in charming to elegant parties. Author Beverly Bass's sophistication spans throughout this book in a way that only she can. I often use this book when preparing traditional, yet fine dined dinner parties.
